I would start each new cube you buy as a 2x2, then have an option to upgrade it to 3x3 then 4x4 all the way up to whatever your main cube is at. You could let people buy multiple cubes to solve at once as an upgrade to points per second as well. You could add in another layer there that has to do with certain colors getting certain bonuses when across from/next to one another, so that the color config is important to pay attention to.

If the yellow isnt opposite white, it throws people off, because the official rubiks colors are yellow opposite white. A big thing in cubing is where the colors are as well. I think you need at least 12 colors so that the player feels as if they have agency in picking what colors they use and upgrade for specific traits. Things like RED stickers speed up the solving, BLUE stickers make a turn worth more points. I think a really interesting system for upgrades would be sticker colors, BUT, each sticker does something special, and you can choose what goes on the six sides. Also check out r/cubers, as they may have some more ideas. Look into Beginners Method, Roux, CFOP, and ZZ.

I solve Rubiks cubes, and other twisty puzzles a lot in my free time, but I think something you could do for upgrades is different methods of solving them increase speed. The problem there is that your cubes scale linerally, and you probably want the upgrades to scale exponentially, so you cant just say 2x2=2pts, 3x3=3pts, 4x4=4pts, etc With a 2x2, you get one point per turn, 3x3 could be 3 points per turn, etc. Each time you prestige, you go up a scale in cubes, and scale the amount of points to how big your cube is. You could use the cube size as the prestige though.

Cube size does literally nothing to improve the amount of points you get per second, whereas turn speed/thinking speed do. I agree with you in that I don't think that cube size should be an upgrade.

Well, in most incremental games, clicking does the action once, with the effects of any bonuses, so a single click should equate to a single turn, plus any bonuses. This sounds like a rambling mess, so I apologize in advance, but I hope you get some good ideas out of it. What do y'all think of my ideas so far? What changes or additions would you make? (I know this has turned into a rather large post. As well as the "Manipulator" which increases the speed of the actual turn Maybe the player can purchases various upgrades which improve the 'Computer' which increases the speed of finding the next move. I am however, nstruggling to find ideas for more upgrades and mechanics - especially because it seems to make sense to have increasing the size of the cube the prestige mechanic. *My idea is that you can unlock / select these over time and each new one you unlock will increase some type of multiplier New sticker styles (shapes, images on them, etc.) Unlock new colors for the insides (the black which can be seen behind the stickers and on the inside during turns) Maybe tapping could give a boost to the current action (either searching for a move, or making the move) Thinking Speed (how long it takes to find a new move)Įfficiency (How many moves it will take to actually solve the cube)Ĭute Size (starts at 2 by 2 and can be increased to about 20 by 20) Turn Speed (how fast the move actually happens) (The player would also net a large bonus when a cube is actually solved.) Each move (turn of the cube) nets the player currency that allows them to buy upgrades, increasing the speed and efficiency of the solver. The main idea is that you start with a scrambled cube and it gets solved over time. The main mechanics are done and it's quite fun to watch it in action (in my opinion) I'll post a video if anyone is interested! I tend to enjoy games that are fun to watch, so I've been working on a incremental/idle Rubik's cube solving game and here are some of my ideas so far.
